The New Designers Show

Tonight's setting for the New Designers Show was the splendid ballroom at the Casino Maltese in Valletta. No less than fourteen new designers showcased their collections to a packed hall that met each presentation with encouraging applause. The event was sponsored by Aldo Shoes & Accessories, Sun Lab and Cinnabon. A roundup of reports from prominent fashion bloggers that attended the event: We Are All Divas, Caroline's Fashion Styling, Dyna's Random Blog, Tiziana Rouge Reveries, Lara Boffa - Boffism Celeste - Designer Martina Spiteri The collection was inspired by flowers and individual petals and every outfit represented a different flower. Her designs are fresh and young and tonight she showed us six designs with the predominant colour being black, going from a Summery dress with a lot of see trough materials like chiffon to an elegant high fashion gown. Celeste's signature of an occassional pop of bright colour was evident. The standout piece was an amazing orange wrap dress with butterflies that captured out attention as Vicky Miggiani modelled it down the catwalk but a she turned around and showed us the amazing design of the back it was spellbindingly and utterly beautiful. Gremar by Marie Grech We had a show of extremely elegant and romantic gowns with velvet, lace and tulle materials. Matched up with fur shawls or feather details. Peplum style was also included sometimes even with two different materials that created a wonderful contrast. Who could have known that cream and maroon could work so well together either. A sequinned patterned top worn over a billowing tulle skirt with an obvious zip up at the back was another standout piece. Creative Factory Seven Creative Factory 7 consists of a great team of three people, designers Charlene Muscat and Angelique Attard with tailor Gaetano Deguara. Wonderful and very colourful Maltese landscape prints were the main feature of this collection. All the designs were in light silky fabrics that laid on the models' bodies perfectly. Tailor Gaetano Deguara certainly deserves credit for the neatness of his work. Nadege Renee` Jewellery A very original jewellery collection mostly in wood, silver and filigree. From earrings to Grecian style bracelets. Models were kept very simple in a black dress to accentuate the beauty of the jewellery. One beautiful design was a thin wisp of silver fashioned into a necklace expanding to hold two big orange acorn like shapes. Elisha Camilleri Here we saw a very futuristic collection called Silent Rebel, varying from harem trousers to a maxi dress all with various layers of fabric on top of each other. Predominant colours were blue, grey and purple. Big pockets were combined with super soft fabrics, slouch turtlenecks were also popular - this is smart casual wear with a difference. The collection featured an evident use of layering, which admittedly, is something that never goes out of fashion right? Fleur Kelinza Fashion Designer Fleur Kelinza took us from a figure hugging dress with lacy detail to an elaborate dress with diamonds all over the neck line. Fabrics used where mostly lace, satin, organza, taffeta & chiffon. All extremely contemporary and trendy. Colours where mainly black, red and pink. Samantha Muscat This young talented designer who described her collection as funky and fashionable and aimed to create versatility and uniqueness really achieved her goal. The main characteristics of this collection were the black and white colours that she managed to put together magnificently, occassionaly matched up with a biker jacket. Details included metal chains and fringes - definitely very Rock & Roll!! Handbag collection by Dali Designed and manufactured by Daniela Camilleri, what a fine job! The collection featured mainly oversized bags with floral patterns. Each one of them was distinguished by a different detail such as a silver chain, small bow, fluffy pompoms or crochet. UCA – University for the Creative Arts UK The designers from the UCA first showcased contemporary designs with heavy fabrics and ended with a chiffon elegant dress that was so beautiful it made all the audience applaud and cheer. Erin Coal – Touch of extravaganza - Designer Caroline Vassallo A very edgy and unique collection of hats occasionally paired with long dark lace, reminiscent of a modern version of a Spanish bride. Dark colours like black and red prevailed. Sef Farrugia A good show of fine tailoring that took us back to the 1960's era. With silk head scarves that made us remember the young Grace Kelly. Patches of patterns and colours, contrasting stitching and bold colours were the trends here. A lovely outfit was a pair of high-waisted cropped wool trousers paired with a patterned bralet. Ewa Nowacka This capable young designer's collection was called Electric Light. All the designs showcased tonight were LBD (Little black dress) with a mix of fine fabrics that included a lot of chiffon. Fretka Designer Stacey Spiteri presented a mostly formal wear designed for the career women that wants to the professional but also looks to making a style statement. Main colours  were black, grey and red and one cannot ignore how the artist played with the patterns to give a sense of individuality to all of her styles. Muriel Thake The show's closing collection was surely one of the strongest of the evening. The use of fur stoles, coloured tights and intricate detailing was a winning combination. The collection is called Jewels from the Orient and it's full of vibrant colours and textures.
